Galway Comedy Festival – John Bishop, Milton Jones, Emma Doran, Elliot Steel, Karl Spain

John Bishop
October 28 @ 8:00 pm
John Bishop is one the UK’s biggest names in comedy. Within three years of his first ever gig, John was playing sold-out arena audiences across the country, and released the fastest selling stand-up DVD in UK history. Milton Jones is regularly on Mock the Week (BBC2), has appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC1), Live at the Apollo (BBC1) and he has headlined Dave’s One Night Stand (DAVE). What an amazing year it’s been for new comedy superstar Emma Doran. She’s just completed her first Irish tour, a total sell out nationwide including 3 nights in Vicar St and her first solo London shows as well as having a chart topping podcast “And Another Thing” Elliot Steel, despite being in his twenties, is a veteran of the British comedy circuit. Starting at sixteen, he has wowed audiences and impressed critics. Having multiple viral clips, Steel is becoming a voice for those in their mid-twenties with his dark but intelligent style. There is no better MC in Ireland than Karl Spain, and often no better night of comedy than Galway Comedy Festival’s Late Night KARLnival! The show, where comedians perform their darker, edgier material - and you never know who will turn up on the night - in front of Galway’s hardest core comedy fans is both institution and unmissable event.

Galway Comedy Festival – John Bishop, Deirdre O’Kane, Seann Walsh, Colin Geddis, Barry Murphy

John Bishop
October 29 @ 8:00 pm
John Bishop is one the UK’s biggest names in comedy. Within three years of his first ever gig, John was playing sold-out arena audiences across the country, and released the fastest selling stand-up DVD in UK history. The last few years have been something of a whirlwind for Deirdre O’Kane. She recently fronted her own talk show - Deirdre O’Kane Talks Funny - in the primetime Saturday night slot on RTÉ One and debuted a brand new standup comedy series, The Deirdre O’Kane Show, with Sky Comedy. Deirdre also appeared as a judge alongside Boy George, Aston Merrygold and Vogue Williams on the new Fox-developed talent show, The Big Deal, for Virgin Media Television. Seann Walsh, described as ‘the best observational comedian of his generation’ (The Guardian), this Edinburgh Award nominee’s last UK tour show After This One, I’m Going Home ended with standing ovations around the country. Seann has starred in Netflix’s Flinch, Live at the Apollo, Tonight at the London Palladium, Celebrity Juice, The Stand Up Sketch Show, Virtually Famous, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Chatty Man and Stand Up Central. A stand-up comedian and podcaster from Northern Ireland, Colin Geddis is one of the most in-demand comedians in Ireland, and regularly headlines shows across the UK – selling out shows in venues such as The Limelight, Ulster Hall, and a total of FIVE sell-out shows at The SSE Arena, Belfast. A godfather of Irish alternative comedy, Barry Murphy has been making Ireland laugh for more than 30 years, whether through his solo stand-up; his Gunther character who views the Irish through a severely arched eyebrow; or as a member of the brilliant sports satire trio, Apres Match.

The Waterboys

November 3 @ 8:00 pm
Few bands have as great a live reputation as The Waterboys. From their mid-1980s "big music" period through the influential mix of Celtic, gospel and country on their classic _Fisherman's Blues_ tours, to the hundreds of brilliant shows accompanying the last decade's run of supremely in-form albums from 2011's _An Appointment With Mr Yeats _to this summer's _Good Luck, Seeker_ The Waterboys have consistently blended tightness, inspiration and improvisation to reach heights of performance few other acts can.  Led by mercurial and brilliant Scottish guitarist/vocalist Mike Scott, the 2020 version of the band features the established line-up of Memphis keyboard great "Brother" Paul Brown, ace British drummer Ralph Salmins and funky Irish bassman Aongus Ralston.

Kojaque

kj
November 11 @ 7:30 pm
Awarded a prestigious Royal Hibernian Academy Award in 2017 for his creative practice, Kojaque came to prominence with the genre-bending concept record 'Deli Daydreams' in 2018, a project that also demonstrated his prowess as a music video director, and was nominated for the Choice Music Prize. Following performances at Glastonbury, Pitchfork Festival Paris, Primavera Sound, and SXSW, he released the album 'Town’s Dead', also nominated for the Choice Music Prize, in 2021.
